A: “Asking is free, so ask it.” Without asking what you want, your chance to accomplish a goal would be zero. No one can predict your struggles. However, once you ask, you will at least get a chance.

A: St. John’s College’s Education Tour in Harbin & Beijing. At that time, I hadn't had a chance to visit the Mainland, but this tour gave me a full experience. Russian-influenced central in Harbin, complex palaces in Beijing, and more... Among all these places, I have always dreamed of seeing the Great Wall of China! During my history classes in high school in Turkey, textbooks showed this magnificent structure but I never imagined myself to be there. I can proudly say that I climbed up its peak and took photos with my St Johnians.

Happy Graduation Atilla!

Inspiring Journeys: Alumni Dedication in Medicine and Humanitarian Service

Forever connected to their alma mater and deeply passionate about their professions, we had the privilege of hosting our esteemed alumni, Dr. Au Yiu Kai (2F) and Dr. Jessica Law (9F), on two inspiring occasions in March and June this year. Their stories and experiences serve as powerful motivation for the next generation of medical professionals. Their lives and careers thus far have been marked by exceptional achievements, demonstrating the profound impact of dedication and service.

Dr. Au's remarkable journey includes a humanitarian mission to Gaza, where he provided critical aid to those most affected by the conflict. In the face of uncertainty, challenges, and volatility, he demonstrated extraordinary courage and commitment, selflessly assisting those impacted by bomb attacks and setting a shining example for future medical professionals.

Dr. Law, a dedicated and passionate OBGYN specialist, has excelled in her career, taking on numerous leadership roles within the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Her significant contributions to the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and various professional societies highlight her unwavering dedication to advancing medical practice and education.

As many high schoolers will receive their IB results tomorrow, we extend our encouragement to them: regardless of the outcome, continue to pursue your dreams with determination and resilience.
Never give up, and we look forward to meeting you at HKU.

LAW High Table - 25 March 2024

We had the privilege of hosting a distinguished group of guests at our High Table dinner. It was an absolute delight to welcome esteemed individuals, including Professor Hualing Fu (Dean of the Faculty of Law), Professor Albert Chen (1F alumni, Chair of Constitutional Law), and Mr. David Lok (1F alumni, Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court).

The evening commenced with our traditional High Table dinner, where over 35 St. John's alumni from the Faculty of Law gathered to celebrate and reconnect. It was heartwarming to witness familiar faces and the blossoming of new friendships among current students and alumni. Following the High Table dinner, we convened in the Common Room for an engaging panel discussion led by our Master, Dr. KC Wong. The esteemed guests shared their insights, wisdom, and experiences, which proved to be truly inspiring. The subsequent networking session was filled with meaningful connections and a vibrant exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Special thanks to our student Convenors, Ryan Cheng from 6F, and Rachel Cheung from 8F, for their efforts in organizing the SJC Law Students' Group. Their dedication has facilitated connections between alumni and provided support to junior law students.

The College is eager to organize more alumni gatherings, with the next one scheduled as the end-of-term High Table on April 22, 2024. If you graduated between 2019 and 2023, please feel free to reserve your seat now by visiting the following link:

The Rhodes Scholarship from University of Oxford - Duanran Feng (3F)

Congratulations to our recent graduate, Duanran Feng, for being awarded the Rhodes Scholarship.
Duanran, a former 3F FCVC and Archives Curator who graduated in 2021, is one of the four Rhodes Scholars from China this year. The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully-funded postgraduate award that offers talented young individuals from around the world the opportunity to study at the University of Oxford.

During his time as a BSocSc student (History & Politics) in HKU, Duanran dedicated his time to the St. John’s College Archives. Serving as the Archives Curator, he would give tours of the Archives Room to alumni and guests visiting St. John's, providing them with a fascinating glimpse into the memorable history. One particularly experience involved Dr. Alfred Tam, an alumnus who returned St. John’s for an alumni dinner. Duanran managed to locate Dr. Tam's photo and hand written meeting minutes from his tenure as the Chairman of SJCSA in 1974-75, leaving a lasting impression on him.

We wish Duanran continued success on his wonderful journey at Oxford!
