The life of a PhD student in St. John's College
After I finished my undergraduate education in Hong Kong, I chose to pursue my doctoral degree in HKU. There are many scholarship opportunities for postgraduate students available in HKU. Being selected as the recipient of Jessie Ho Memorial Postgraduate Fellowship is one of the reasons that I chose HKU.
During these 2 years in HKU, I specialize in exercise physiology. With state-in-art facilities, I can make use of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center, Department of Radiology to explore the brain response to exercise. I can also send experimental samples to the Centre for PanorOmic Sciences to explore how our gut bacteria change after exercise training. With excellent supervision, teammates with different background and supportive facilities, I enjoy my research here in HKU!
The life of a PhD student can be full of research pressure certainly. By staying in college, I make many good friends here and there are various activities organised by the postgraduate student association (PGSA). We go hiking, bowling, barbeque, etc. together. With their companion and support, I overcame many difficulties both in my life and research.
I believe not just me, many of us take SJC as our second home.
